About This Program
The undergraduate certificate in visual communications from American Military University (AMU) teaches you the basic fundamentals of graphic design, animation, image manipulation, image enhancement, image storage, and website design.
Through your online visual communication courses, you will learn how to create dynamic, interactive web experiences. The program helps you:

- Develop
- Deploy moving text and graphics
This undergraduate certificate program allows you to build your visual communication skills without committing to a full degree program.
What You Will Do
- Learn the purpose and usage of smart objects, layers, and vectors in editing; the differences between raster and vector images; and how to hide, link, and set layer styles
- Use Adobe Photoshop® to edit and restore digital images and enhance images by manipulating sharpness, color, contrast, hue, brightness, and resolution
- Study effective design principles and concepts for organizing information, performing site design, and determining navigation structure
- Become familiar with web page design principles, the use of style sheets, Adobe Flash®, and the use of tweens, anchors, guides, and onion skins to develop web animations
- Understand the differences between various image file formats on the web, including GIF, JPG, PNG, and SVG

Software and/or lab equipment required for some courses in this program must be purchased at the student’s expense, and are not included in the university book grant. Includes alumni who graduated with an associate, bachelor's, or master's degree from APUS. Student loan debt is defined as student loans and private education loans used for tuition, fees, living expenses, and book costs associated with courses taken at APUS. Many APUS students receive military tuition assistance and veterans education benefits, which are not student loan debt.

*Cost Per Credit Hour
The Preferred Military Rate is $250 per credit hour for undergraduate and master's-level courses. This rate is available to all U.S. active-duty servicemembers, National Guard members, Reservists, and military families, including parents, spouses, legal partners, siblings, and dependents.
