About This Program

American Military University (AMU) offers an associate degree in real estate studies that will familiarize you with the skills, experience, education, and licenses required for various real estate functions.

AMU’s associate degree in real estate online program focuses on the basics of the real estate industry. Coursework covers:

  • Real estate principles and practice
  • Finance
  • Appraisal
  • Property management
  • Real estate law

You will also learn the knowledge and skills needed by the real estate agent, broker, inspector, appraiser, mortgage or loan officer, and property manager. You’ll learn about the agent’s role in your class on Real Estate Practice. This program is appropriate for both current and aspiring real estate professionals.

NOTE: This program does not award professional certification, but may be helpful in preparing to earn such certification.

What You Will Do

  1. Learn about professional roles and what each role requires from a personal, educational, experiential, and licensing perspective
  2. Identify the principles, practices, legal considerations, and ethical issues needed to be successful in real estate roles
  3. Understand and apply the skills needed to undertake financial analysis, property appraisal, internet-based marketing and research, contract negotiation, investment evaluation, and personal marketing
  4. Become familiar with licensing exams and other entry requirements in the state(s) you plan to practice
  5. Develop clear strategies, goals, and action plans to launch a real estate career

This course is a study of real estate law, with emphasis on those portions of real estate law that are essential to the processes and functions of the real estate purchase, administration, financing, land use regulation, financial instruments, leases, and property rights. The law of real estate has traditionally consisted of laborious manual searches to ensure good title. The internet provides real estate attorneys and legal assistants with new tools and procedures for conducting real estate transactions. This course will prepare the student for these concepts and will introduce the student to the new world of the Internet as related to real estate law.
